Scavenger Hunt Riddles

A riddle clue describes a place without naming it. Pick the spots in your house, choose teens or adults and the generator writes a chain of riddles that ends at the gift.

Step 1. Pick your hiding spots

Tick every place where a card could go. You need one spot for each clue, and the last one is where the big gift waits.

Inside the house

Outdoors, car and garage

At the office

Add your own spot

    Step 2. Who is playing?
    Step 3. Build the chain

Clue 1 is handed to the player. Every other card is hidden at the spot the clue before it points to.

    Order of the stops

Drag a stop, or use the arrows, to put them in your own order.

      Paper
      Cards per page
      Presets

      A riddle for every spot

The fridge, as a teen riddle:

      • FridgeI light up when you open me, and then you stand there for ten minutes deciding. Go see me.

And a few more, so you can judge the tone:

      • OvenI heat to 350 on demand and I am the reason the kitchen smells good on Christmas Eve. Check me, but only while I am off.
      • BathtubGreat place for singing, terrible place for phones. Find the bathroom spot where you soak.
      • PianoI have 88 keys and no password. Find the instrument everyone was forced to practice.

Teen and adult riddles are part of the paid plans, so you can try the cards on screen first. The free plan covers up to 5 clues for little kids and kids 7 to 12. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one time) lifts the limit and unlocks teens, adults and the office edition; the Family Pack ($4.99) adds a separate chain for each child. See pricing.

      Making riddles easier or harder

If a riddle is too hard, drop the age group one step: the kids 7 to 12 clues rhyme and give more away. If your players solve riddles in seconds, move up to the adult set, which leans on wordplay. You can mix ages in one hunt by giving each child their own chain in the Family Pack.

      Questions

Are the riddles different for each hiding spot?

Yes. Every spot has at least three riddles for the teen group and three for adults, all written by hand and none repeated.

Can the players guess the answer from the card?

The riddle describes the spot, so they have to work it out. The hiding place of the card itself is never printed on it.

How does the clue chain work?

You tick the places where cards can hide. Clue 1 is handed to the player and points to the first hiding spot. The card hidden there points to the next spot, and so on. The last card points to the spot where the big gift waits. No spot is used twice in one chain.

      Is the clue generator free?

Yes. A hunt of up to 5 clues with the little-kids and kids 7 to 12 libraries is free, as a PDF or straight from the print button. Free pages carry one small line at the bottom saying where they were made. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one-time) removes the limit and adds the other age groups.
