Christmas Scavenger Hunt for Kids

Short clues for little ones, rhymes for 7 to 12. Tick the spots in your house and print a chain of cards that ends at the tree or the stockings.

Step 1. Pick your hiding spots

Tick every place where a card could go. You need one spot for each clue, and the last one is where the big gift waits.

Inside the house

Outdoors, car and garage

At the office

Add your own spot

    Step 2. Who is playing?
    Step 3. Build the chain

Clue 1 is handed to the player. Every other card is hidden at the spot the clue before it points to.

    Order of the stops

Drag a stop, or use the arrows, to put them in your own order.

      Paper
      Cards per page
      Presets

Little kids: words they can read, pictures if they cannot

The little-kids clues are one or two short sentences. Switch on the picture hint and each card also shows a small picture of the place it points to, so a child who cannot read yet can still play.

      • FridgeCold, cold, cold! Look in the kitchen where the milk lives.
      • BathtubSplash! Where do you take a bath? Find the tub and look inside.
      • Christmas treeLook at the shiny lights! Go to the Christmas tree.

      Kids 7 to 12: rhymes

Older children enjoy a clue they can read out loud, and a rhyme tells them the answer is close.

      • PianoBlack and white keys, up and down, play a song with a happy sound. Check the bench or lift the lid: the next clue's where the music hid.
      • StairsUp you go, then down you creep; one of the steps has a clue to keep.
      • StockingsHung with care and stuffed with cheer, stockings wait for Christmas here. Reach inside and feel around; the next clue's in there to be found.

Both children’s age groups are free. The free plan covers up to 5 clues for little kids and kids 7 to 12. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one time) lifts the limit and unlocks teens, adults and the office edition; the Family Pack ($4.99) adds a separate chain for each child. See pricing.

Tips for a hunt with children

Keep it to five clues for children under six. Walk the route yourself first, and keep cards out of anything hot, wet or breakable. Cards for the oven and the fireplace are for when those are off and cold. A child who gets stuck can be given the next spot’s name as a hint: the answer key lists it.

      Questions

      Is the clue generator free?

Yes. A hunt of up to 5 clues with the little-kids and kids 7 to 12 libraries is free, as a PDF or straight from the print button. Free pages carry one small line at the bottom saying where they were made. The Full Hunt ($2.99, one-time) removes the limit and adds the other age groups.

Where do I hide each card?

The host answer key page tells you, card by card: “Hide card #3 in the fridge.” The cards themselves never say where they go, so players cannot peek at the answer.

Is it safe to hide cards in the oven or the fireplace?

Only when the oven is off and cool, and only when no fire has been lit and the hearth is cold. The answer key prints a reminder whenever you use one of those spots. Pick another spot if you are in any doubt, and take cards out before anyone uses the appliance.

Can each child get their own chain?

With the Family Pack you can make up to 6 chains. Each child gets a card color, and no two children are sent to the same spot at the same step. Everyone ends at the same gift on the last clue, and the answer key says so.
